FLETCHER'S GROVE West Virginia | Rock, funk & Americana Fletcher's Grove has spent nearly two decades building its own strain of Appalachian jam rock: rooted in songs, driven by rhythm and built to open up onstage. The West Virginia five-piece moves naturally between rock 'n' roll, country, funk, folk and psychedelia without sounding stitched together from genres. Twin guitars ride over bass, drums and percussion, giving the band room to move from tightly written songs into deep grooves, extended improvisation and the kind of turns that only happen after years of playing together. Ryan Krofcheck, Wes Hager, Matt Marion, John Inghram and Tommy Bailey each bring a distinct musical voice to Fletcher's Grove. With multiple songwriters and a wide range of influences within the band, the music can take shape from several different directions. One song may lean into Appalachian storytelling and acoustic textures; the next can stretch into something louder, stranger and considerably farther from shore. That approach has carried Fletcher's Grove through clubs, theaters and festival fields across the region and beyond, with appearances at All Good, Summer Camp, The Werk Out, Hookahville and 4848 Festival. Along the way, the band has built something of its own with Groovin' with the Grove, the long-running West Virginia gathering that brings together national, regional and local artists around the community that has grown with the band. The records show another side of the story. On Waiting Out the Storm, Fletcher's Grove stripped the music back to acoustic arrangements and brought the songwriting, harmonies and Appalachian influences forward. The album earned praise from musicians including Vince Herman and Larry Keel and later landed its title track on a Relix digital sampler. Fletcher's Grove is moving into its twentieth year with new music already taking shape. The members' work beyond the band continues to bring new influences and ideas back into the fold, while those different musical perspectives keep pushing Fletcher's Grove in new directions. There's plenty of history underneath Fletcher's Grove, but the momentum is pointed forward. New songs are entering the live show, familiar ones continue to change onstage, and after all these years together, there are still places in the music the band hasn't been yet. The roots run deep. The interesting part is what's growing now.
